Hillary at ABA built consensus

Article Abstract:

Hillary Rodham Clinton was chosen in 1987 to serve as the first chair of the ABA Commission on Women in the Profession. Her tenure was marked by hard work, political astuteness and the ability to build consensus. Among the Commission's accomplishments during her chairmanship were the publication in 1990 of a manual for law firms on part-time employment, parental leave and sexual harassment policies, a report on female participation in the ABA and starting the Margaret Brent award for achievement by women.

Firm PACs: all business; it's power, not politics, that spurs the spending of lawyers' money for candidates

Article Abstract:

Law firm political action committees (PACs) started during the first Reagan administration and have become a common phenomenon on the legal scene. Law firm PACs relate to which candidate might help law practice and promote public policy goals important to lawyers, not to political beliefs. Law firm PACs spent $1.2 million during the 1991-92 congressional fund-raising period and three times as much went to Democrats as to Republicans.
