Memphis lawyer delivers the world

Article Abstract:

Federal Express's general counsel and secretary Kenneth R. Masterson oversees a 151-person legal staff and $25.6 mil budget for the Memphis-based overnight delivery service company. He has developed alternative fee arrangements for outside counsel and has been quite active in both recruiting outside representation and hiring in-house legal staff. Details of Masterson's family life, activities, pro bono work, personal background, and his observations on the legal profession are also presented.

Suing Microsoft: that's the ticket!

Article Abstract:

Ned Goldstein serves as general counsel and senior VP in the Ticketmaster Group, the largest ticketing service in the world. He has been instrumental in litigation with Microsoft over its city guide Web site and in Ticketmaster's mid-1990's battles with the rock group Pearl Jam. Goldstein's background, pro bono work, family, philosophy on the law, and related topics are also discussed.

Thinking out of the jury box; lawyer-juror on hung panel joins the defense for retrial

Article Abstract:

Attorney Joan Canny was on a Louisiana murder trial jury and wound up on defendant Walter Huston's defense team, helping to win his acquittal. Throughout this moonlighting, which Canny did without pay, she continued her regular work at New Orleans' McGlinchey Stafford P.L.L.C. in labor law. Prosecutors had ethical objections to Canny's moonlighting but she still persisted.
