Midland Bank: combined market and performance review for clericals

Article Abstract:

The clerical staff of the UK's Midland Bank received their pay increases in April 1996 under the bank's revised pay system, introduced in 1995. The system is based on a combined individual and market review and staff can also receive cash bonuses for individual excellence. The 30,000 clericals received raises ranging from 0-8%, while the bank's 8,900 managers received merit increases of between 0-14%.

Clydesdale Bank: new agreement adds 4.95% to paybill

Article Abstract:

The UK's Clydesdale Bank has introduced a revised pay and job grade structure for 1996. Salary increases are based on a matrix combining performance pay and market comparisons. Jobs are grouped into families. The changes, which increase overall salaries by 4.95%, also feature a 1% implementation payment, a performance bonus plan, and a London market adjustment.

Norwich Union: team rewards introduced

Article Abstract:

UK insurance company Norwich Union introduced a clerical staff team bonus plant conjunction with its annual merit increases awarded in Apr 1996. Non-senior staff increases ranged from 0-6%. Senior and non-senior staff rises were made in accordance with salary progression matrices and all employees earned a profit-sharing payment.
