Mr. Chess makes surprising move: he leaves Bar Bri and goes west

Article Abstract:

Stanley D. Chess and Steven H. Levine have left Bar Bri, a bar review course provider, to join West Publishing Inc's new bar review course division, West Professional Education Group. Bar Bri has been subject to several suits contending monopolistic behavior and has paid many settlements totalling more than $1 million. Eric P. Geller of Harcourt General Inc, Bar Bri's owner, says Bar Bri is happy about the competition in a market of which Bar Bri currently controls approximately 70% with an annual average of 35,000 students in 46 states.

ABA accreditation panel urges changes, but critics want more

Article Abstract:

A commission of the American Bar Assn has issued a report advising changes in how the organization accredits law schools, but critics of the process say the report does not go far enough. The report calls for emphasizing skills training in the standards, including more teachers when calculating student/faculty ratios, loosening library requirements, ceasing to examine faculty salaries, and lowering the cost to the schools of the evaluations.
