The enemy is in their cites; Lexis-Nexis and Westlaw battle over the latest in research tools

Article Abstract:

Lexis-Nexis and Westlaw are the two star online legal information services and are busy releasing innovations to outshine each other. Westlaw released KeyCite in Aug 1997, which can provide case histories, retrieve secondary sources, cite the case and divide case citations by legal issue. A year later, Lexis-Nexis released three new enhancements, Core Terms, Selected Text and Legislative Links that summarize the key legal terms within a case or agency opinion. These features allow the highlighting of important passages and a search to find related materials.
