Overseeing and overlooking: The US federal authorities' response to money laundering and other misconduct of BCCI

Article Abstract:

This article discusses federal responses to the massive financial fraud committed by the Bank of Credit and Commerce International (BCCI). The authors argue that federal agencies whose duties are to oversee financial institutions are largely ineffective due to certain legal restraints and amount of influence the financial industry has over government, and maintain criminal activity at the level of the BCCI scandal can occur again.
