P.D. with a helping habit; kids and convent are the poles of this lawyer's life

Article Abstract:

Dominican nun Mary Louis Russley heads the Permanency Planning Unit of Cook County, IL Juvenile Court's Juvenile Abuse and Neglect Section. This unit serves parents who have given up trying to regain the child custody they had lost. Many of the clients are imprisoned mothers. Russley feels these cases would be more effectively handled outside the adversarial system.

Lend me a cantor; St. Louis attorney combines religion and law

Article Abstract:

Howard Shalowitz is a St. Louis sole practitioner and a cantor at the Traditional Congregation of Creve Coeur. He feels that his religious training has added to his compassion in interactions with clients. He began his cantorial training during a break between college and law school and did some part-time work as a cantor during his law school years.

Designs of distinction; 1993 law office design winners

Article Abstract:

The 1993 winners of the ABA's Law Office Design Competition all exemplify the idea that a law firm's architecture and design must show the image the firm wants to project. The categories in which winners were chosen included a small firm with financial constraints, reception areas, small firm design and large firm design.
