Peter Drucker and the denial of business ethics

Article Abstract:

The belief by Peter F. Drucker, a German author of several management books, denying the relevance of business ethics seems to be contradictory to several of his works. In some of his works, Drucker questions some German business practices particularly during the Arbeitsfreude movement before the start of World War II. His reflections on the social responsibilities of businesses suggest that his denial of business ethics is not a denial of ethics in business, but rather a personalist ethics.

Manager-employee relationships: guided by Kant's Categorical Imperative or by Dilbert's business principle

Article Abstract:

Immanuel Kant's Categorical Imperative and philosopher Alfred North Whitehead offer some insights into what should guide employee-employer relationships. Kant's idea is grounded on humanity, while Whitehead's idea is based on a morality that places others before oneself. The case involving Malden Textile Mills manifests that their concepts are not too idealistic for the modern business world that seemed to have accepted the Dilbert Principle proposed by Scott Adams.

A Kantian approach to codes of ethics

Article Abstract:

The relationship between ethical theory and practice was analyzed to determine whether ethical theory can be applied consistently to a code of ethics. The moral justification for ethical theory was discussed in relation to Kantian ethics. Kantian ethics was presented as the most appropriate philosophical basis for the assessment of the moral validity of codes of ethics.
