Predatory pricing and laissez-faire 'economic' theory: the view from Mount Chicago

Article Abstract:

A prime example of pro-monopoly attitudes is the Competitive Enterprise Institute founded by James C Miller, Ronald Reagan's budget director and FTC chairman. The federal judges treat the Institute's views as economic gospel and have embedded it in their precidents for over 20 years, Testimony to the Department of Transportation on its proposed policy guidelines for the enforcement of unfair exclusionary conduct in the airline industry are given.

Predatory pricing and the new entrant: any 'low-fare' carrier entering a 'hub' market

Article Abstract:

The example of Sun Country Airlines of Minneapolis/St. Paul is presented to show the difficulties small 'low-fare' airlines face, even though the Dept of Transportation's predatory pricing policy guidelines are viewed favorably.

This article consists of the conclusion of a letter intended to influence the U.S. government's antitrust treatment of pricing methods used by the airline industry. The authors encourage weakening of regulation and enforcement.
