Presidential rhetoric on crime and public opinion

Article Abstract:

Researchers attempt to discover whether presidents are able to manipulate public opinion of crime by increasing the attention, public discourse, and time given to issues of crime. An increase in high-profile presidential speeches concerning crime was found to increase both the public concern for crime and the implementation of public policy regarding crime. Historically, this influence has allowed presidents to inflate the public's irrational fear of crime for political gain even while general crime rates decline.

A malleable balance of market practices and fairness constraints

Article Abstract:

This article addresses fair conditions in a market economic system. According to the author the market functions under constraints of fairness, whereas it has been argued that unfair practices are inevitable due to certain capitalistic factors, such as greed. Significant points include the importance of pleasing the consumer, which in the long run will lead to higher profits, and retention of employees, considering unemployment will ultimately hurt the economy.
