Rainmaking on the podium

Article Abstract:

Lectures at conferences can be a useful public relations tool for attorneys, since they can use the occasion for client development as well. In their presentations, attorneys should concentrate on practical methods of addressing the audience's main concerns. They should never start out by asking the audience to delay questions until the end. They should use breaks to get to know people and ask if the lecture is meeting their needs. They should encourage further contact but be subtle about distributing the law firm's promotional material. All of the above should help make good use of an occasion normally considered a chore.

Attorneys' actions set firm image; public's view

Article Abstract:

A client survey can help determine how close public perception of a firm is to the image a marketing department wants to project, and can help a firm develop better marketing techniques which meet both business and client needs. All parts of a firm's marketing effort, including public relations, advertising and brochures, should remain consistent. Cross-selling services is an effective client development technique. A contingency plan should be in place for negative situations when a firm's public image could suffer.
