Republican, connected and rising: glib Laura Ingraham and studious Jay Lefkowitz are the GOP darlings to watch

Article Abstract:

The energetic and aggressively intelligent pair of Laura Ingraham and Jay Lefkowitz are leaders among the young Republicans in Washington DC. Together they planned their party's first annual 'Dark Ages' bash in response to the Democrats' Renaissance Weekend. Ingraham, 31, is an associate at Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher, & Flom, working with Robert S. Bennet after clerking for Justice Clarence Thomas. Lefkowitz, 33, is a partner at Kirkland & Ellis where he works with Kenneth W. Starr. Both held responsible White House posts.

Bill would allow suits on boycott compliance

Article Abstract:

A brief measure that may soon pass in Congress would permit US and foreign companies to sue any US companies that have harmed them by allegedly complying with the Arab Leagues economic boycott of Israel. The Dept of Commerce already administers regulations prohibiting cooperation in the boycott, and foes of the new provision say it will contribute little and could encourage lawsuits against innocent defendants. Violations of the present regulations almost never rise to actually supporting the boycott.

Some politicos more equal than others; where can they go with J.D. and resume in hand?

Article Abstract:

Employment opportunities for ex-government employees differ according to the rank they held in government and other factors. Those who used to be high-profile officials and agency general counsel have the best possibilities, the latter especially when the agency had to do with finance or business. Ordinary ex-congressmen do not necessarily make good private sector lawyers. They have often become too dependent on staff and lack the client development capabilities which attorneys need today.
