Rethinking cyberspace jurisdiction in intellectual property displays

The author discusses the need to protect intellectual property in electronic commerce and means by which e-businesses can protect their rights internationally. Topics include the national nature of IP rights, the relevance of physical location and targeting, and problems created by forum shopping.

(National) trademark laws and the (non-national) domain name system

Article Abstract:

The author discusses the jurisdictional conflict between the Internet domain naming system and national trademark laws. Possible new rules for domain names to address the conflict are analysed, and the potential impact of such rules on trademark law is evaluated.

Taxing e-commerce: the landscape of Internet taxation

Article Abstract:

The authors discuss policy issues related to the taxation of commercial transactions conducted over the Internet. Sales and value-added taxes are covered, along with problems of jurisdiction, and proposals for an international taxation policy are treated.
