Seeking harmony; is the Asian concept of the conciliator/arbitrator applicable in the West?

Article Abstract:

Asian cultures tend to be seekers of harmonious solutions which keep the relationship intact and such cultures take naturally to a combination of the conciliation and arbitration processes. This combination can make reaching a consensual settlement while preserving a working relationship between the parties easier. Such a system seems to have worked well in Asia and Western cultures should not shrink from its use.
