The Clinton-Lewinsky scandal might actually be good for some legal humor, as improbable as that might seem. A story with Monica Lewinsky consulting a lawyer for a possible sexual harassment case against Bill Clinton is imagined. She reveals some thong underwear and slips an Altoid mint into her mouth. The lawyer persuades her that a sexual harassment case works much better against Republicans than Democrats known for their sympathy to women's rights but is able to make her happy with a promise to return her to White House employment on Americans with Disabilities Act grounds.

Was Monica's therapist waiver truly voluntary?

Article Abstract:

Monica Lewinsky's immunity deal with Special Prosecutor Kenneth Starr included the all evidentiary privileges except the attorney-client one, so her therapy with Dr. Irene Kassorla was not immune, and Dr. Kassorla might have risked a grand jury subpoena if she declined to verify details of the Lewinsky-Clinton relationship. Lewinsky's immunity agreement is broad enough for Starr to continue investigating should Lewinsky seek psychotherapy again, and the prospect of Clinton going on trial for perjury after his term ends makes this a very real risk.

Article Abstract:

The three areas which should concern the public most in the Monica Lewinsky matter are the scope of the investigation these allegations have unleashed, the widespread double standard on sexual behavior evident among the general public, and the risk the investigation will detract attention from truly serious issues. The public's attention span is limited anyway and the media need a sense of proportion. On some subjects, don't ask, don't tell is the best policy.
