'Soldier' tells of unsuccessful murder plot; ordered by an angry mob boss, the murder attempts cast a pall over Philly's bar

Article Abstract:

The racketeering trial of sole practitioner Salvatore J. Aveena contains testimony of a plot to kill two other noted Philadelphia lawyers and a newspaper reporter who covers organized crime. The plot was never carried out and it would have violated the traditional code of conduct of the Mafia. The two lawyers who were to be murdered are Donald C. Marino and Joseph C. Santaguida and the reporter George Anastasia.

In-house counsel can sue the boss; attorney-client privilege will not bar a Title VII suit

Article Abstract:

The 3d US Circuit Court of Appeals reinsstated the sex discrimination suit of Kachmar v. SunGard Data Systems, Inc, stating that federal courts should balance a person's civil rights with the professional responsibility of the attorney-client privilege. The suit was filed by an in-house attorney of a computer services company in protest of her dismissal.
