Starter Internet suite

Article Abstract:

Quarterdeck's InternetSuite 2.0 communications software can quickly make a new user productive on the Internet. The package includes all of the programs required to get on-line, plus some extras. The suite includes a Web browser, e-mail software, newsreader and several Internet utilities. The program works around the Quarterdeck Mosaic Web browser, which is now able to handle Netscape and Internet Explorer HTML extensions. The browser makes it easy to browse the Web by allowing users to retrieve multiple Web pages simultaneously and by providing a list of favorite sites and a link tree. The handy history page also tracks all pages visited during the current session. The QWinsock driver serves as an excellent alternative to the Trumpet Winsock shareware driver, and is quite stable and full-featured.

Sort through WP DOS' directory maze

Article Abstract:

Organizing WordPerfect files logically is one of the most important concepts in working with the software. For DOS versions, it is important to have a basic grasp of how DOS uses directories and subdirectories to store files. This entails a physical hard drive being partitioned into 'logical' disks. In such a setup, a single hard drive is treated as two or more drives, with each organized by a root directory and assorted subdirectories that branch off. Files for most WordPerfect environments can be organized through a similar approach. For law firms, it makes sense to create a structure based on clients and their respective matters. This will make it easier to find and back up related documents.

When bad things happen to good documents

Article Abstract:

WordPerfect users can benefit substantially from certain functions within Symantec Corp's Norton Utilities, Central Point Software's PC Tools Pro, and a shareware program called WordPerfect Doctor. These programs can help repair damaged files that are otherwise unusable. Specifically, PC Tools and Norton Utilities both contain a function called 'FileFix' that can fix errors in many common word processing packages, including WordPerfect 5.x and 6.0. WordPerfect Doctor, from Software by Seidman, is specifically developed to repair WordPerfect files; a different version is needed for versions 5.x and 6.0.
