Study forecasts broad future for financial planning

Article Abstract:

Financial planning services have expanded to include a wide range of practitioners, such as insurance professionals, but consumers are often confused about the value or types of services available, according to a study published by the Certified Financial Planners Board of Standards. The study concludes planners must educate consumers about financial services to succeed in a changing marketplace. Multiple specializations have expanded dramatically since 1987, as planners have expanded into specialty areas such as risk management, and retirement, estate, and tax planning.

Tax advantaged retirement planning: selling life insurance in the Roth IRA market

Article Abstract:

Life insurance can be an important part of clients' retirement plans depending upon demographic factors and clients' personal planning goals. Traditional IRAs and Roth IRAs may not be adequate or may not provide certain benefits, such as premium waivers, which are available with life insurance policies. Clients with limited resources who require retirement period fund accumulation and death benefits may chose life insurance over IRAs.

Framework for the Roth IRA decision

Article Abstract:

The Roth individual retirement account (IRA) was created by the Taxpayer Relief Act of 1997 to offer options other than those of an IRA. This retirement vehicle does not permit deducting initial contributions, but it excludes accrued earnings and other qualified distributions from taxation. People need to decide whether they should contribute to a Roth IRA or a traditional IRA and whether to convert an IRA to a Roth IRA.
