Article Abstract:

Third US Circuit Court of Appeals Judge A. Leon Higginbotham has published an unusual open letter to Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas in the University of Pennsylvania Law Review. The letter chides Thomas on the anti-civil rights and affirmative action views he professed as a Reagan administration official. Higginbotham, a black who graduated from Yale Law School in 1952, reminds Thomas of the wrongs inflicted on blacks by previous Supreme Court decisions and urges Thomas to follow in the footsteps of Thurgood Marshall.

As it turned out, the historic $100 million may not have been totally altruistic

Article Abstract:

Inductotherm Industries founder Henry M. Rowan's $100 million gift to New Jersey's Glassboro State College may not have been completely altruistic as it saved him $31 million in taxes and having it used to build an engineering school provided his company with a steady flow of trained labor. The plan might have gone awry when he funded scholarships for the school, stipulating that they were for employees' children but not children of union members. Protests from state legislators forced Rowan to withdraw that condition.

Mr. Escobar, one of the world's richest inmates, helped design the prison

Article Abstract:

A humorous account of important legal events in 1992 is given. Examples include the 'Nose Dive of the Year Award' to Pepper Hamilton and Scheetz for its 1992 downsizing and the 'Most Significant Judicial Decision of the Year' award to Justices Sandra Day O'Connor, Anthony Kennedy and David Souter for proving with their abortion rights ruling that the Supreme Court marches to the voice of drummers other than the President.
