Right-to-carry concealed weapon laws and homicide in large U.S. counties: the effect on weapon types, victim characteristics, and victim-offender relationships

Article Abstract:

In their study of the effect of concealed weapons laws on violent crime, David B. Mustard and John R. Lott did not account for types of weapons used in violent crime, victim characteristics, or relationships between victims and offenders. If these factors are analyzed, some results support Lott's and Mustard's thesis and some do not.

Privately produced general deterrence

Article Abstract:

Private security services do not have a deterrent effect on crimes, except possible rape. Therefore, the findings of David B. Mustard and John R. Lott, Jr. about the impact of concealed weapons laws are not skewed by a failure to account for private security.
