The General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade: world trade from a market perspective

Article Abstract:

The GATT and the World Trade Organization have had a major impact on the regulation of international trade and instituted changes likely to help Asia and Pacific countries in particular. An event study analysis indicates a disparity in stock market reactions to the GATT, with Asian markets benefitting the most. Nations that are best poised for future competitive growth in the early 21st century, such as the Asian and Pacific countries, are likely to receive the biggest boost from the GATT, since many of its provisions will take years to implement.
