The courts and private ADR: partners in serving justice

Article Abstract:

The courts and the private alternative dispute resolution (ADR) system are independent systems of justice in some ways but interdependent in others. The two systems are independent because they use different techniques to resolve disputes. The systems are interdependent because the courts need ADR in order to decrease caseload, and ADR needs the courts to insure the integrity of the ADR system. ADR is a natural outcome of a continually evolving justice system.
