Righting victims' rights; activists seek cause-of-action clauses for noncompliance

Article Abstract:

The failure of advocates of the rights of victims of crimes to secure these people a cause of action against officials who do not enforce these rights or fail to notify these victims of the same is discussed. Victims' rights amendments exist in 32 states, while the other 18 have at least a statutory bill of rights for victims.

Issues are discussed regarding the litigation by freelance writers against electronic database owners for unauthorized reprints of their work. Defendants argue the use is a legitimate revision of the original single issue of the periodical.

Untangling the Web; law firms seek to avoid injudicious use of Internet resources

Article Abstract:

Law firms' restrictions on workers' Internet use are discussed. Some law firms have even used commercial software to block access to certain kinds of Web sites or have lawyers sign acceptable-use policies when employed.
