They battle for a dinosaur named Sue

Article Abstract:

In Aug 1990 well-preserved bones of a Tyrannosaurus Rex were discovered near Faith, SD, on land belonging to the Cheyenne River Sioux Indian Reservation and were excavated by the Black Hills Geological Research Institute. A protracted legal battle ensued among the US government, the Sioux nation and the institute. The government wants to apply the Federal Antiquities Act to claim the fossil, but that has never been applied where discovery took place on land held in trust by the government. The government also claims the fossils are evidence for a probe of the institute's activities elsewhere.

NFL players just gotta be free agents

Article Abstract:

The legality of the National Football League's (NFL's) restrictions of free agency under antitrust law is being contested in the case of McNeil v National Football League. The case is being heard in the US District Court in Minneapolis, MN, and is expected to be decided in Aug 1992. The NFL's rule entitled Plan B Free Agency 'protects' 37 players on each team, who are unable to negotiate with rival teams. Players contend that this rule gives the owners an unfair economic advantage. The NFL claims that the rule is necessary to achieve competitive balance among teams.

Peltier lawyers return to court

Article Abstract:

Leonard Peltier's attorneys are still trying to get him a new trial on his conviction for the murders of two FBI agents in 1975. The most recent attempt came in a federal court hearing on Nov 9, 1992. Peltier's attorneys are trying to convince the court that Canada's extradition of Peltier happened because of false information provided by the US government and that there is no direct evidence connecting Peltier with the murders.
