Trials of the century

Article Abstract:

At least one high-profile case has received billing as the trial of the century in nearly every one of the 20th century's decades, but the conflicts at the basis of these cases, wealth, power, and social conflict, are timeless. Some of these famous cases are covered, including the murder trials of Harry Thaw and O.J. Simpson at opposite ends of the century, Bruno Hauptmann's trial for kidnapping the Lindbergh baby, the Scottsboro boys' trial, which came to symbolize the blatant and egregious race discrimination in parts of the South during the 1930s, and the Scopes "monkey" trial pitting the teaching of creationism against that of evolution.

When cyberstalkers walk

Article Abstract:

Inadequate sentences for use of the Internet to stalk minors are discussed. Reasons for these lenient sentences include federal sentencing guidelines, which allow reduced jail time for first-time offenders showing remorse for their actions, as well as judges' discomfort with the nature of FBI investigations.
