Suicidal missions; psychological autopsies to uncover motivation in suspicious deaths are themselves now suspect

Article Abstract:

Psychological autopsies are discussed and are a controversial way of shedding light on the state-of-mind of the deceased person at the time of a suspicious death. Critics claim they are highly speculative and there is no consistency between experts' opinions. Courts have also differed in their willingness to admit admit psychological autopsy evidence.

Truth sleuth or faulty detector? Voice-stress analyzer as polygraph alternative goes on trial

Article Abstract:

Voice stress analysis dates from the mid-1970s and it was developed as a more effective technology than the polygraph, but doubts about reliability have always been there. Several voice stress products have become available commercially, but the National Institute for Verification claims a lock on the law enforcement market. Voice stress testing is not admissible in court and criticism of the technology is frequent.

Waiting to celebrate; as the Hispanic population grows in this country, so do concerns about equal treatment in the justice system

Article Abstract:

Hispanic Americans have the common assumption that they are recent immigrants added to the long-established prejudices and discrimination faced by other minorities.The Latino population still grows in numbers and in economic strength, and may surpass blacks as the largest US minority group by 2005. In legal protection Latinos continue to lag behind, and several perspectives on how to make the system more equitable are given here.
