Windows into the world of foreign branches; as law goes global, so do lawyers: veterans of service in different offices tell tales

Article Abstract:

Four young attorneys reflect on their service in foreign offices. Two of them are part of the troops helping Eastern Europeans learn capitalist ways. One works in Vinson and Elkins's Moscow office, one in White and Case's Budapest and Poland offices. The Budapest lawyer feels that the disadvantages such as a crumbling infrastructure are outweighed by the learning experience of helping an emerging market. The lawyer who works in Arent Fox's Jidda, Saudi Arabia office feels that working in a small office necessitates the use of management skills which make lawyers good partnership material. The lawyer working in the London office of Bryan Cave finds working in the United Kingdom a constant shift between centuries.
