Bose-Einstein condensation: a new form of matter

A Bose-Einstein condensate (BEC) is formed when bosons coalesce into the same quantum state to form a new state of matter. The experiment that first produced BECs and its influence on the future of nuclear physics is discussed.

The sound of the big bang

An Antarctic balloon flight mapped the small angle temperature variations of cosmic background radiation. The temperature variations that the scientists observed and recorded were described as the "sound of the big bang".
