Housing: officials target minorities in occupancy code raids

Article Abstract:

An investigation at the Belleville News-Democrat found that officials in Belleville enforce the occupancy code regulation with little regard for the constitutional rights or dignity of citizens. Research showed that 42 percent of those arrested were African American residents and those who refused to allow the officers to come in and search were charged with obstruction.

Power plays: Varied state records show abuse of power by public officials

Article Abstract:

The public officials at high positions are suspected to often use their power and money for their own interests. This has been illustrated by the example of Dr. John W. Shoemaker, president of University of Tennessee, who was exposed for his frequent personal trips under the cover of official business.

Torture: Iraqi athletes report regime's cruelties

Article Abstract:

The agony of Iraqi athletes at the Iraqi National Olympic Committee (INOC) is traced, for which the president of INOC, Uday Hussein the son of Saddam Hussein is responsible. These athletes were imprisoned and brutalized for the mere reason of losing the games.
