Juvenile justice

Article Abstract:

A brief overview of the youth prisons in California, specifically California Youth Authority, which is a network of state-run prisons that houses the juvenile offenders who cant be handled by counties in local programs, is presented. The state fails in its legal mandate to treat and rehabilitate the youth in the prisons and its adult-prison atmosphere allows for little education or therapy.

Article Abstract:

The 2005 Annual Computer-Assisted Reporting (CAR) Conference to be held on March 17, 2005 through 20 March 2005 will feature an Advanced Day for CAR veterans, special tracks for broadcasters and beginners and several sessions for Spanish-speaking journalists. The Conference will have workshops on teaching CAR that will help educators and newsroom trainers.

Rising costs: Police overtime pay out of control as officers, prosecutors pass blame

Article Abstract:

Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) spent around $63 million as overtime paid to police where prosecutor are planning to cut off overtime to fill deficit in budget. However the officials revealed that cutting court overtime is a tough balancing act because of frequent delays of court hearings and the chaotic schedules of officers.
