Lockheed battles Northrop, Boeing for radio job

Article Abstract:

The three companies competing for the Airborne and Maritime/Fixed Station Joint Tactical Radio System (AMFJTRS) contract exceeding $54 million are Lockheed Martin, Northrop Grumann and Boeing. Northrop Grumann Space and Technology (NGST), a unit of Northrop Grumann would build the radio systems if the Lockheed-led team ultimately wins as the prime contractor of the team that includes BAE Systems, Raytheon Co. and General Dynamics Corp. would be ineligible to manufacture the gear while the rest of Northrop Grumann acting as a prime contractor will submit a competing proposal to the Lockheed offering.

The top 10 Pentagon contractors have been listed according to the Department of Defense's latest figures based on dollar value of new contracts, with Lockheed Martin, Boeing and Northrop Grumman ranking among the top three by snagging $21.9 billion, $17.3 billion and $11.1 billion respectively in new contracts. Meanwhile, Northrop Grumann was toppled from its position as the largest Navy contractor, falling to fourth place while Lockheed Martin gained first place by attracting $6.5 billion of orders.
