Politics

Article Abstract:

The federal law prohibits charities with tax-exempt status like the center from contributing to political campaigns and it is illegal to use taxpayers' money for political campaigns. 'The San Francisco Chronicle' mentioned that a nonprofit group made payments from the grant money to three people and two companies, who in turn made closely time donations to Kevin Shelley, the former majority leader of the California State Assembly's successful 2002 campaign for California secretary of State.
