Colin Manlove's book 'Scottish Fantasy Literature: A Critical Survey' explores Scottish literature and fantasy tradition. It contains 13 substantive chapters that discuss such topics as the beginning of Scottish fantasy and the works of James Hogg, George MacDonald, Robert Louis Stevenson and J.M. Barrie. Manlove concludes that Scottish fantasy is characterized by the basic lack of confidence in the conscious or civil self, and the emphasis on female power and worth.

The UN celebrated its 50th anniversary on Jun. 26, 1995. Almost all heads of state of the member nations will attend a special commemorative meeting of the General Assembly in Oct. 1995. The original UN Charter will be displayed in the visitor's lobby of the UN Building until the end of Oct. 1995.
