Tracing the trends: 1991 award winners

Article Abstract:

The stories that won during the 1991 Investigative Reporters and Editors awards focused on important social issues in the US. A great deal of investigative journalism examined cases of police brutality, an influence of the Rodney King beating. Most stories of this nature examined the angle of racial discrimination. Other topics of popularity among journalists were those that dwelled on sexual harassment, the savings and loan scandal, corruption in government, and a variety of frauds and scams.
