Article Abstract:

The Broward County sheriff's office that reported a decrease in the number of actual crimes committed in its territories and the Sheriff's promise to the city commission of cheaper and better police protection if the city would contact with the Sheriff's office is discussed. Sheriff Ken Jenne has implemented a series of changes that are long term in the department to ensure the accuracy of the agency's crime reporting.

Back taxes: Delinquent property tax bills serve as cheap business loans

Article Abstract:

Several Utah businesses have quietly discovered a way to obtain instant, low-interest 'loans' with low fees, no applications and no waiting by simply not paying their property taxes on time. Officials suspect that most delinquents fail to pay taxes on time as of financial trouble or forgetfulness however many businesses view it as a way to obtain relatively cheap and easy loans.

Fire response

Article Abstract:

The firefighters in Tucson and across the country do not have enough resources to consistently respond to fires on time, putting themselves, residents and property at greater risk. Tucson fails to meet the national standard for response times about half the time and its fire department response times haven't received much attention.
