A consumer's guide to media truth

Article Abstract:

A consumer's guide to farmers in media reporting includes warnings about straightforward accounts and highly ambitious claims. News stories with scant facts and dubious sources should be approached with suspicion. Readers should follow their instinct and common sense and be flexible and open in their use of news items. Readers should take their analysis of news seriously or they will continue to fall prey to unfair and prejudiced reporting.

Fairness, truth and the makers of image

Article Abstract:

The truth in the allegations of unfairness in US press reporting does not imply intentional bias but affirms the problems associated with maintaining honesty in covering news events. Difference of opinion about fairness will remain because of the varying perceptions about what constitutes fairness. Journalists should strive for fairness by applying their news judgment and acknowledging personal prejudices even if it is difficult.

Journalists must aim at a consensus on the objectives, content and methodology of reporting if the press is to evolve the system of ethics which it lacks.
