A price too high?

Article Abstract:

Television executives and programme markers are concerned a new trend may be set by the payment of 400,000 pounds sterling to Monica Lewinsky for a television interview by UK television station Channel 4 (C4). The interview would be shown throughout the world, apart from the USA. Some television critics believe limiting interview fees to a sensible figure should be the standard procedure for attracting high profile interviewees, although the most important people will attract the highest payment.

Against all odds

Article Abstract:

ITV's new digital television channel ITV2 is to be started up on November 1 1998. The new channel is expected to focus on sport, lifestyle and entertainment, aiming to capture young and affluent males. However, the new channel's first year budget is set at 21 million pounds sterling, compared to Channel 5's first-year spend of 110 million pounds. Although there are plans for 24 hour broadcasting, the channel will start by broadcasting from late afternoon to around midnight.

All night long

Article Abstract:

The theming of programmes has become extremely common on terrestrial television in the UK. Some observers believe that broadcasters could now be taking theming too far, with viewers becoming too familiar with the concept and no longer being attracted by it. However, television executives responsible for commissioning and producing themed evenings believe that this type of programming is set to become even more common, rather than less.
