In the 1980's, industry experts predicted the British Broadcasting Corporation wouldn't survive the assault of Margaret Thatcher. But the end of the century shows a public service station that commands over half of the market share for radio, and 40 per cent for television.

Thompson denies BBC is crowding out rivals

Mark Thompson, director general of BBC (British Broadcasting Corporation) has denied the charges of overcrowding the media market with new television and radio channels, he was speaking to audience at a lunch organized by Broadcasting Press Guild.
