BBC launches drama initiative

Article Abstract:

BBC single TV drama and films head David Thompson and Stephen Lambert, the editor of Modern Times, have introduced an initiative that is aimed to induce directors of documentaries to make dramas. According to Thompson, the initiative is geared specifically at developing low-cost drama projects for airing on BBC 2. Lambert is already the executive producer for an experimental drama, which was made by Paul Pawlikowski, a documentary director. Pawlikowski's experimental drama, which centers on young car thieves in Bradford, is anticipated to be aired on BBC 2 later in 1998. Pawlikowski's feature film entitled, "The Stringer," was premiered in May 1998 at the Cannes film festival.
