Beyond the square

Article Abstract:

China's profound transformation is reflected in only sparse, intermittent references by news media to the brutal, bloody suppression by the government of peaceful, mass student demonstrations in Tiananmen Square in 1989. This significant omission is also a sign of the growing if grudging consensus in editorial sentiment with the US foreign policy strategy of 'constructive engagement.' However, the Tiananmen Massacre of 1989 remains a symbol of the reality of a two-faced power although many Beijing residents have opted to move on even of they have not forgotten the event.

Plight of the penguins

Article Abstract:

The world's largest breeding colony of Magellanic penguins is located on the southern coast of Argentina at a place called Punto Tombo. It is there that the penguins first began to be slaughtered in 1982 for commercial purposes. Soon thereafter Argentines became outraged by the senseless slaughter of these harmless creatures and forced the government to pass a law prohibiting their killing and call for a scientific study of the penguins instead.

A child's misbehavior in preschool may be a manifestation of some emotional displacement or an ailment such as attention deficit disorder. Parents should take action rather than ignore criticisms made by schoolteachers.
