Changing the cut of the suits

Article Abstract:

There have been significant developments at management level in the UK television broadcasting industry since summer 1996. It is possible to argue that a new management style is emerging in the industry as it faces the challenges of the digital era. It seems that the old management order has been swept away by younger managers who have extensive experience of the modern media age and generally follow research-led strategies. In contrast, the old order of managers mainly operated on the basis of show business instincts.

Denton criticises BBC management style

Article Abstract:

The BBC's management style lacks transparency and is largely ineffective, according to Charles Denton, who is soon to leave his post as head of drama at BBC TV. Managers are often tied up with management theory, and modern management practices sometimes endanger the creative process. However, he believes that there are still good prospects for the BBC, as audiences respect its principles.
