Facing up to Rupert

Article Abstract:

On Digital Chief Executive Stephen Grabiner appears to be relaxed and enthusiastic about the battle with BSkyB for digital television customers which will begin in Autumn 1998. Grabiner is cheerful, energetic and good at managing and motivating people. He came to digital terrestrial broadcaster On Digital in Apr 1998 after more than 10 years in publishing. He believes his experience in developing brands in a competitive media environment will be advantageous in the building of On Digital's market share. He also believes that the simplicity of On Digital's service will be a major attraction.

An independent man

Article Abstract:

The television broadcasting company Corinthian Television Network Ltd. (CTV) is performing very well despite having a name change. Its chairman, Barry Johnson, discarded the Carlton communications image when he took over the company in Apr. 1995. CTV's multimedia, post-production and transmission divisions have performed very well over the past twelve months. Johnson has created an outside broadcasting division which will broadcast the PGA European Golf Tour until 2001.

A licence to thrill

Article Abstract:

Format licensing has become an extremely important part of operations at BBC Worldwide. There is particular interest in people-based shows, with 'Noel's House Party,' for example, now being broadcast in five countries. BBC Worldwide believes that the main area of potential for the future is producing programmes for other broadcasters. It is looking to build up its portfolio of formatable titles, and is particularly keen to produce for overseas markets.
