German concessions fail to head off EC digital veto

Article Abstract:

CLT-Ufa and Leo Kirch's planned digital pay-television alliance will still be vetoed by the European Commission despite the concessions forwarded by the firms. The European Commission is bent on vetoing the planned digital-television partnership between Deutsche Telekom, CLT-Ufa and Kirch due to antitrust concerns. The firms' proposed digital-television alliance, however, faces a chance of being saved if the involved parties agree to more significant concessions by Jun. 3, 1998, the European Commission-set deadline for the issuance of a final decision on the partnership.
