Many new television channels have started and failed since the late 1970s. New sectors have also expanded the selling universe including cablel and satellite. Controllers of large programme libraries have benefited by supplying the new channels. Home Box Office (HBO) of the US began as a pay channel in the 1970s and move into original programming in the early 1980s providing film makers with viable alternatives to Hollywood studios. There is expected to be an increasing demand for original programming over the next decade. The US is currently the most sophisticated market although Latin America offers high investment potential.
