Indies' champ

Article Abstract:

Graham Benson is the chairman of Pact, an organisation which promotes the role of independent producers in the UK. Benson persuaded the Arts Council to use money from the lottery to support the British film industry and has been involved in discussions with the BBC over a new trade deal which is expected to be concluded in March 1997. Benson believes that Pact has raised the profile and status of independent producers. Trade deal negotiations have already been agreed with Channel 5 and Benson hopes that Pact members will be considered for the role of chief executive of Channel 4.

Hurlls of wisdom

Article Abstract:

Michael Hurll is a television producer who has worked with many established names in British television. Hurll is worried that the British television industry is very short of new producers and directors because young talented people are not being given the opportunity to develop their skills. Hurll and Noel Edmonds both have their own television companies and these look likely to merge. Hurll will bring his skills as a producer while Edmonds will bring his commercial skills. Talented people will get a chance to get involved in new projects.
