Job for a hard hat

Article Abstract:

Sir Robin Biggam will become Chairman of the Independent Television Commission, the UK commercial television regulator, in January 1997 for a five year term. He has no television background but feels he brings some technical knowledge to the job from previous appointments with ICL and leading cable supplier BICC. Biggam expects the main issues during his term of office to relate to the digital revolution, but his first six months will see the close of bids for the spare digital terrestrial multiplexes, the launch of Channel 5 and the general election.

'Unbundle TV rights' says Sports Council

Article Abstract:

Sports authorities should 'unbundle' rights for mass audience terrestrial television channels, according to the Sports Council in a draft version of its voluntary code for sharing television rights. Sporting bodies must ensure that the interests of the general public are protected and that all sports are given appropriate coverage, but they must also bear the responsibility for handling television rights.
