ITV's official's decision to move Coronation Street from its schedule has had disastrous effect on its popularity. The purpose of moving the show, i.e., improving on its Celebrity Love Island ratings, has also not been served. It may be recalled that Coronation Street is one of the most popular television programs on ITV in the last 44 years.

ITV's duality as a commissioner and producer of programs, and independent producer, has the broadcasting industry wondering if ITV should change under consolidated ownership. ITV's owners see its production system as flawed and could begin to see more control over commissioning programs under new impending legislation.

ITV alters contract rights

Article Abstract:

ITV is preparing for the new commission licensing and production rights policies, demonstrating its commitment of service for buying programs. ITV 2 will be able to negotiate rights to ITV programs and ITV will continue to hold some of the rights, such as online and multi-channel, that were held by producers.
