The advantages and disadvantages of do-it-yourself post-production among UK television producers is discussed. This growing trend is brought about by small budgets for television programs and the decreasing price of editing kits. In-house post-production case studies, and the reaction of post-production facilities to this trend, are also discussed.

Current TV, an interactive Emmy award-winning channel set up by Al Gore and Joel Hyatt in 2005, was launched in the United Kingdom in March 2007 and showcases viewer-created news content targeted at the 16 to 24-year-old demographic. The other features of the website, in which 30% of the news content are user-generated, are given.
