New States man

Article Abstract:

Dr Helmut Thoma, Managing Director of RTL Television, the top commercial broadcaster in Germany, is keen to copy the American style of television network management. He believes American programming is necessary for new channels such as RTL to survive. RTL has a programming budget of $650 million a year, with much of this spent on making German versions of foreign programmes. Dutch, Australian, British and American writers are brought in to re-write the shows for the German market, with Thoma believing Germany lacks writing talent, particularly for humourous shows.

Chinese puzzle

Article Abstract:

Jim McNamara, ex-President of New World Television, believes that the consumer market in China needs to improve for television to expand in the country, and that there is a direct relationship between the television market, the consumer market and advertising.
