New director Phillips plans Worldwide charm offensive

Article Abstract:

BBC Worldwide plans to launch a charm offensive with in-house and independent producers as part of an effort to broaden its distribution operation under the leadership of newly appointed director of international television, Mike Phillips. The appointment of Phillips makes him the dedicated figurehead for Worldwide's sales department, a post that has been unoccupied since May 1997 after Fabiola Arredondo resigned as director of international distribution. As director of international television, Phillips will be responsible for overseeing the purchase of rights for shows and serve as representative for Worldwide at the major markets.
